An overactive Pitta dosha (fire and water elements) in the body can cause multiple symptoms connected with excess heat. This can be driven by the seasonal heat of Summer, excess inflammation in the body, heat stroke, menopause/puberty/menstruation, infection, fever and hyper acidity. This can present with symptoms of overheating/hot flushes, excess sweat, headaches, dark urine, excess thirst and aggravated, sensitive skin.
Along with sometimes more targeted medications, I often recommend a very simple tonic water made from coriander seeds. This tonic flushes out the urinary system, cleanses the blood, settles the acidity in the stomach, alleviates fever and quenches thirst. Honestly, it is one of my top 5 favourite at home remedies everyone should use throughout the hotter months or during times of heat imbalances in the body. This water is actually really lovely to take and can be had warm or at room temperature.
Please do not take boiling hot. Children and adults alike can have the tea daily or as needed, and even some mint leaves can be added for flavour and also cooling benefits.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
1-2 tbs coriander seeds (from the supermarket or Indian supermarkets)
1.5-2 litres of water
METHOD
Place the seeds and water in a saucepan and bring to boil for 1-2 minutes. Strain and sip throughout the day.
