THE IMPORTANCE OF AGNI - DIGESTIVE FIRE
We are now in the heart of Spring, the heart of Kapha season. A time where everything is in bloom, transformation and new growth.
From Winter to Spring is a big shift in external environment and therefore, our internal one too. In Ayurveda it is acknowledged that any phase of transformation weakens the body temporarily and leaves it open to becoming unwell without the right routines in place.
For Spring, the Kapha dosha can get out of control if not pacified correctly leading to symptoms such as colds, congestion, hay fever, allergies, itching skin, excess fluid retention and a slow, sluggish digestion.
The sluggish digestion is the most imperative to correct as it leads to an exacerbation of all other symptoms. Your digestive fire needs to be rekindled and balanced wherever possible to maintain optimum health in Spring.
SIMPLE WAYS TO ACHIEVE THIS
Drink plenty of warm water with some fresh ginger slices added. Burns through toxins and cleanses the gut.
Eat food that is warm and dry, not too soupy or oily.
Add warming, digestive spices to your food such as black pepper, cumin, ginger, turmeric, mustard seeds, garlic and even a little hit of chilli (if your Pitta isn’t too high!)
And most importantly, only eat when hungry and avoid the snacks. Keep your digestion strong and regular as much as possible to avoid slowing your whole internal system down.
With light and love,
